Tláloc the Meshica (Aztec) deity of the waters, controlled not just rain and storms, but all forms of water - rivers, lakes, and springs. He was both life-giver and destroyer, bringing the rains necessary for crops but also capable of sending floods, droughts, or lightning strikes when angered. The Mexica believed he resided on mountaintops and in caves, particularly at Tlalocan, a paradise where those who died by drowning or lightning would go.
